It was certainly a day to celebrate woman power as three stalwart singers Kanika Kapoor, Shalmali Kholgade and Harshdeep Kaur graced the cover of the latest issue of Society magazine. Kanika and Shalmali, alongwith Founder-CEO, The Giving Back Foundation, Meera Gandhi made their way to the Magna Lounge in Mumbai to unveil the issue making the occasion extra special.
Society calls them "India's Hottest Singing Sensations," and within reason. While Harshdeep has been crooning one gorgeous Sufi melody after the other, Shalmali is a favourite thanks to her versatility where she lends her voice to rock ballads like 'Pareshaan' from Ishaqzaade and party tracks like 'Lat Lag Gayee' from Race 2 with equal panache. Kanika is the latest entrant who has sprinted her way to the top with five back to back hits starting from 'Baby Doll' (Ragini MMS 2), to 'Lovely' (Happy New Year) and now 'Desi Look' (Ek Paheli Leela). Joining the singers was the renowned social activist Meera Gandhi, who spoke about her collaboration with Magna Publishing for an Annual concert which will be held on September 5th, 2015 at the Royal Festival Hall in London showcasing the three distinct voices of Bollywood - Kanika, Shalmali and Harshdeep. Talking about how the world needs more female performers, she said, "It feels great to be associated with an endeavour that showcases women who excel in all walks of life, including the creative world. The London Concert will be testimony to not just female empowerment, but also the motto that the Giving Back Foundation stands for. How we all have a social responsibility to come together collectively and encourage and help the girl child to be able to pursue her dreams no matter what it is. My association with Magna goes a long way and I feel privileged that we can be associated with the noble thought that drives this concert."
Kanika and Shalmali are extremely excited to be part of this endeavour as well. For Shalmali, who will be performing in London for the first time, it's a challenge to get the best of the crowd. Kanika intends to keep the Punjabi tadka in her performances. All three singers will be jamming to Bollywood hits, old and new, from their own repertoire and beyond. So don't forget to catch them live with Harshdeep Kaur at the Royal Festival Hall in London on September 5th 2015!
